A Calm Strength With Fairytale Charm

Calling all Game of Thrones aficionados! This holiday rental is a restored 16th-century Croatian castle that served as the set for the city of Braavos in the beloved HBO fantasy series. Dragons might not be roaming the premises, but this mighty fortress is a sight to behold. Standing impressively along the Adriatic Sea with picturesque views of nearby Split and the bay of Kastela, the ancient structure exudes a calm strength and fairytale charm.

The castle’s stoney facade reflects majestically off the surrounding water, gleaming with a staunch history. Its original stone structure has endured the test of time with the authentic arched windows and limestone walls preserved, while the interiors have undergone a thoughtful restoration. Contemporary furnishings, decor, and amenities populate the cozy yet spacious rooms, featuring a fresh aquatic charm. Its white, brown stone, and warm wood color palette is playfully punctuated by bright blue accents in the form of velvet throw pillows and decorative vases.

A lovely terrace with potted flowers and a shady Tamaris tree sits just before the castle’s front door. Guests are coaxed to sip a morning coffee from the wicker sofas overlooking the harbor, where charming boats and buoys bob peacefully in the sun.

The Watercastle House is simultaneously quaint and prodigious. Its modern makeover expertly manages to honor its past while providing 21st-century luxury.

Rustic Yet Refined

There are no cars in Caraiva. Seriously: no cars, no chaos, and sometimes no electricity. But what this fishing village lacks in glitz, it makes up for in pure, unadulterated bliss, with white sand beaches and the authentic charm of a town untouched.

Visitors and locals commingle happily in Caraiva along the Bahia coast, sharing cultures and a mutual respect. One of the seven native tribes in Bahia, Pataxo Hahahae, continues to prosper in a nearby reserve.

Suffice it to say, a stay at these villas for rent in Brazil is refreshingly remote. The property captures the slow, easy-living style of Caraiva in its rustic yet refined design. A true escape from the outside world to one filled with salvaged wood furnishings, stone-floor showers, and macrame hammocks.

Villa Fulô offers the perfect setting to disconnect from your day-to-day stressors and reconnect with friends, family, and yourself.

An Evocative 60’s Spirit for the 21st Century

It’s not often that a place comes with its own manifesto. But this vacation home rental in Arizona isn’t just any home.

Declaration #9 of the manifesto instructs: “Edit, simplify and delete. Less is always more.” This is a credo the owners and designers have clearly taken to heart, with a minimalist design and sleek monochromatic elegance in every room. Style-conscious travelers seek out The Brexley for its understated opulence and inspiring stillness. Snapshots of serenity weave together throughout the home, making for a rich tapestry to indulge in.

Despite its simplistic stylistic elements, it oozes luxury, with every nook and cranny of the home mutedly decadent. A custom-built front door sets the tone for the rest of the property, featuring 7,500 steel pipes of various sizes welded against one another by artist Cody Carpenter.

The home’s appeal lies in the accumulation of these moments. Each detail has been carefully considered, engendering a thoughtfulness you can feel. Natural light seeps in through the windows and leafy canopy shrouding the patio and pool. Ficus trees dot the perimeter of the yard, eliciting an intimacy within as guests swim, read, and listen to music.

“Pay attention to the subtle details & nuances in life,” says the manifesto, and at a place like this, it’s a tip you simply must take.

CASA Wabi, Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico

CASA Wabi, Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico

Sense of Community Both in Design and Function

Put simply: there’s no other place quite like Casa Wabi. Located just twenty miles northwest of Puerto Escondido, this holiday home in Oaxaca is a robust Art Residence serenely secluded on a quiet beach between the Pacific Coast and the Sierra Madres del Sur mountains. The Casa Wabi Foundation itself was initially founded as a multicultural, multidisciplinary art foundation for artists to find refuge, hone their crafts, and work together in an inspiring environment.

Casa Wabi has since opened its doors to all travelers interested in getting a peek inside a unique hub of idea-sharing and creativity. All proceeds go directly to furthering the foundation’s community programs which encourage a dialogue between their residents and the surrounding local communities.

With Japanese designer Tadao Ando at the helm, the execution of Casa Wabi was a collaboration of eight architects, who all came together to conceive of six separate sites clustered around the main central complex.

Each element of the residence’s design has been carefully considered to facilitate free-flowing thought for all who enter, and to encourage creative connections between residents.

Casa Wabi aims to strip away frivolity and provide a new perspective from which artists can engage with their practice. Any and all travelers are welcome to this environment, where they too can experience a meditative community filled with introspection and connection.
